Manila FAME (Furnishings and Apparel Manufacturers’ Exchange) was founded in 1983 by by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and is one of the longest running trade shows in the Asia-Pacific. Since its founding, the show has been featuring the latest creation and design trends in furniture and furnishings, holiday and gifts and fashion. Through the years, Manila FAME has been nurturing Philippine creative manufacturers and producers and continues to promote them in the global market.
It is the only event in the Philippines approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), a Paris-based association of trade fair organizers.
In October 2011, Manila FAME and three other major sourcing events in the Philippines — manila now, CEBUNEXT andBijoux Cebu — merged into a single event in order to bring even more products to more buyers, serve more markets and showcase Philippine design and artistry. The show highlighted products set in a retail concept and developed under three global trends: Naturalist, Mood Indigo and Graffiti. It also featured skilled artisans demonstrating their craft in creating products with the use of indigenous materials such as capiz, buri and rattan. Read more at THECITEMBLOG.
The successful collaboration continues for Manila FAME’s 55th edition in March 2012.

An exciting collection of home products developed by Michael Cleghorn and Linda Simpson under CITEM’s Merchandise Specialist Program, reflecting three global trends: Paradiso, Stone Age, and Tribal Fusion.
The brilliant colors found on the shores of the Mediterranean inspire this signature collection, Paradiso. Painting our palette are resident bougainvillea, sunflowers, striped espadrilles, and Sicilian hand painted tiles. Boldly checkered rattan and painted metal bistro sets and basketry prevail along with boldly painted tableware modeling fish and flower illustrations. Folkloric embroidery taken from French peasant blouses finds its way on to fashion accessories, table linen, and pillows.
A contemporized architectural style with its minimalist design aesthetic is signatured here. Texture plays a major role in this thematic position mirroring reptiles, refracted crystals, sea shell fragments, granite, and natural woven materials. Our palette uses shades of gray which continues their emergence as today’s new black stippled with peridot, aquamarine, and topaz as sophisticated accents.
Our richly woven tribal aesthetic conjures up a warm country lifestyle retreat for the soul. Recycling, and repurposing raw materials into treasured home furnishings take the stage. This position is populated with Ikats, tanned leather, rustic basketry, beaded pillows , hand-carved furniture — all carrying a warm vegetable-hued palette accented with indigo and chestnut.
